The Jim Rome radio show is a sports talk oriented radio show that is broadcast weekdays from 12-3 PM in select markets, generally over sports-talk stations.
What It Is
The show features smack-talk (verbal assaults), takes (one's interpretation of something), interviews, emails, referential "humor" and an extensive use of nicknames. Listeners are dubbed clones (an obvious nod to Rush's Ditto-heads) and are instructed to "have a take and don't suck," or they will get "run" (booted). The clones are very loyal and you will surely be exposed to their own peculiar style in subsequent reviews.
One can rest assured that they will be exposed to numerous grunts, screams, sound-bites and the usual tedious sports talk gimmicks. My final experience (after approx. 90 hrs. for review purposes) was an extensive and excruciating tape of screams. For some inexplicable reason, Rome and his clones seemed to like it, but it had me scrambling to push the Off button.
Who's It For
If you find yourself in envy of Forrest Gump's cognitive abilities, love listening to sophomoric verbal attacks, enjoy childish sound effects, or have absolutely nothing worthwhile to do with your time, then this is the show for you. Otherwise, those with unimpaired hearing will want to tune the radio elsewhere.
Rome's takes on soccer, Star Wars and D&D save the show from the 1 star rating it deserves, garnering it a hesitant 2.
By the way clones, I get it, I just don't like it.
